A few months after my mother died, I changed my name to Elyria. It was a rite of passage suggested by a dear friend who had lost a parent some years earlier.
I wish my mother could read these poems. I know some of them would have made her cry, and sometimes that would have been what she needed. But more than that, I want you to read these poems. I know some of them will make you cry, and sometimes that will be what you need. I want you to read them, remember how to heal, learn to live with the hurts and the losses you carry -- take a deep breath -- and go on living.
We are all alone in our grief, sometimes. But other times, we can take comfort in sharing our sorrow with those who understand loss. We come away stronger for it.
That is my hope for you.
all my love,
Elyria
singing my mother down poems of grief love and renewal eBook Elyria Rose
I lost my hero, my dad, on the 5th of February of this year. I tried reading Elyria's book soon after he passed but was unable to. As I lay here missing my dad and now concerned about my mother's health, my friend's words bring a measure of calmness in the storm I fear I may be walking back into so very soon.I know as time moves on and I return to this book of heartfelt poems, that which resonates will only increase and that which may not resonate as strongly now, will when I need them to. That's what shared grief and beautiful words do for us - they remind us that we're not on this Path alone. There are those ahead beckoning us on, those beside us treading this terrible Path and we, in turn, tell those just starting this Path - you can make it too and we will help you for we were there and understand, even if our grief is of different shades. Grief is grief and it has a job to do and together we can learn to live with these scars even if they forever remain painful.
My friend's, Elyria, heart, compassion and understanding shine through in these words. If you've lost someone you love, this book of poems will help ease that pain even if for a little while. And as Time wears on as only Time can these words will weave their magick around you and the Stars will shine once more for you.

singing my mother down poems of grief love and renewal eBook Elyria Rose Reviews
Not my cup of tea, but others might like it. I found it more depressing than healing.
I loved this book. It beautifully captures some of the hardest moments any of us will face but pushes you through to the other side of it all. What a gifted poet! I would love to read more of her books!
Amazingly well written from the heart, having lost many who were close to me, I found comfort in the thoughts and words of Elyria. Would definitely recommend to anyone, especially those experiencing a great loss.
Absolutely beautiful. These poems are by turns heart breaking and cathartic. Whatever kind of mourning you are experiencing, Elyria guides you through the tunnel to see the sunlight. Love never dies.
This is a lovely book and I highly recommend to any in need of a new perspective on their sadness or life in general. The poems range from heart-tearing to whimsical; wandering from sheer grief to pure joy in living. Timeless subjects written in an engaging, cleverly modern voice. I bought one for knowing the writer, a second for having given away the first, and a third on a friend's request after they'd peeked at my copy. Highly recommended!
As someone whose mother passed away not too long ago, my heart echoed and ached with the words Elyria Rose shared. I highly recommend this collection whether you yourself have had parallel journeys, or simply want to read a beautiful collection of poetry.
I found this book in the most bizarre way but so glad I did. I lost my dad, my maternal grandparents and my mother in a 5yr span. My mother was my best friend. It all left a PTSD type mark on my life... being so afraid of who might be next or if it was going to ME next. March 12th was the 24th anniversary of my mothers death. I still grieve and cry for her like it was yesterday. I found this book and immediately downloaded it. I could not stop reading. It rendered me speechless and sobbing. It is a BEAUTIFUL book. Inspiring and agonizingly wonderful. Beauty DOES come from ashes sometimes. I am so grateful for this book.
